The following story was made up as I went along, and posted without being edited.. It is the kind of story one would use to entertain someone who cannot sleep.
I think it might actually be based on one of the Grimm stories, but I’m not sure. Rest assured that this story will end in a way that will give pleasant dreams,
or not.
“bedtime story”
Once upon a time in a kingdom in the middle of a forest older than any imagining, there was a beautiful princess. She was always loved to pieces by her father, the king. Her mother on the other hand, jealous of the princess’ beauty (which increased tenfold every three and a half months) was afraid that the king no longer loved her, because he spent all day playing with the princess and spoiling her absolutely rotten.
The princess’s tailors were always kept busy, because every day, as per the kings instruction, the princess wore a different dress. Each dress had a different color, and went down to the floor, for modesty purposes. The king, who never thought about anything but his daughter’s happiness, reserved a whole win of the castle for her to live in, with a tower that was so tall, she could see from its windows beyond the whole kingdom, but not past the trees, which were higher than the clouds. The princess stared out of her super-high window every night before sleeping, looking at the massive trees that she had never seen up close. Each night she lay in bed awake, unable to sleep for the longing to explore the forest. Each night, after coming to an uncomfortable sleep, she dreamed about the wonders and mysteries that she would never know. Because even though the beautiful princess could have whatever was in her father’s power to give, she could never leave the palace. No princess in the history of the kingdom had ever left the royal palace except when accompanied by extensive guards.
One evening, after several nights of preparation, the princess, blissfully unaware of how cliché it was, snuck out of the palace and into the city. She climbed a tree planted conveniently close to the wall surrounding the palace grounds, and off she went into the starry night. The city was cold and wet, and the princess’s silk shoes quickly became flimsy and floppy, so much so that when they slid soundlessly off her feet, she didn’t even notice it. The princess folded her arms and hunched over, and her teeth chattered. She went over to a wall and leaned against it, pulling her clothing closer to her and waited for morning to come.
When the princess woke up, the sun was high in the sky, the sounds and smells of the city were ripe in her ears and nose, some were less pleasant than the others. she crawled out away from the main street, and into the alleyway, where she promptly bumped into a very mean looking sort of fellow, with no teeth and a large knife.
He threatened her with the long and shiny blade, and the princess ran into the street, calling for everyone's attention. she told them that the mean looking man with the large knife had spent many years abroad studying the ways of knife tricks. She drew a large crowd around him in a semicircle, and asked for someone to give her an apple. a red, delicious looking apple was handed to her, and she looked at the man, who was not o mean looking anymore. backed into the alley, trying to hide himself in the shadows. she coaxed him out with the promise of coins. She threw the apple in the air, and the man sliced it into quarters with his knife. She took the hat off of his head and the people put coins in it. And so the princess helped the man with the knife.
